N.S.S. College, Ottapalam,affiliated to the University of Calicut was born out of the dreams of the great visionary and social reformer, Bharata Kesari Sri. Mannath Padmanabhan. It was consecrated by Swami Vishadanandha, President of Sree Ramakrishna Ashram, Palappuram and was formally inaugurated by Mrs. Prabhakaran Thampan on 10th July 1961. In July 1962 it was upgraded and was shifted to the present site. The premised of the College consist mostly of donated from Smt. K.P.S. Menon and Sri. Vapala Sankaranarayana Menon. There have been others too who must indeed be remembered with gratitude. At present this institution is a full fledged Grade I College with 12 UG course and 5 PG courses. In February 2007 the college was accredited by NAAC with B++ status.
